Raise car and remove wheel taking all normal safety precautions. Safety
precautions are beyond the scope of this guide which assumes you to be
a experienced safe mechanic.
Remove top and bottom bolts using an open ended spanner to stop sliding pins from turning:
Pull caliper away:
Suspend caliper:
At this point check sliding pin and piston boots carefully. If they are
damaged you may need to back out of the job and reassemble to make car
driveable again whilst you obtain these parts. If the piston boots are
damaged, the caliper may need to be repaired, for example if a piston is
scored or water has caused corrosion you may need to order a new piston
and piston seal kit or a reconditioned caliper. Also check whether you
want or need to aquire further parts, for example the shims were missing
on the car in the pictures.
Remove pads and shims (if present) from torque plate:
...PICTURES MISSING... insert pictures showing disk change here.
Refit torque plate:
...
Clean caliper if desired and inspect piston dust boots:
Remove brake fluid from resovair to prevent overflow when pistons are pushed back:
Push pistons back fully using a large G clamp with protective packing (recommended) or with levers (as shown):
With new pads and disk, pistons need to be fully back as shown:
...
Fit wear indicator to pad:
Coat sloted shims with disc pad grease (or copperslip) and put one on back of each pad:
Lightly smear inside of stainless steel shims with disc pad grease (or copperslip) and fit one to each pad over black slotted shim:
...
Give surface of disk a final quick wipe with a residue free solvent such as
iso-propyl alcohol to remove any greasy fingermarks or any residue not quite
removed from new disks by initial degrease.
Fit pads and shims and springs:
Slide caliper over pads and shims and install bolts:
Make a final check of job:
Refit wheel and tighten wheel nuts progressively in the proper diagonal pattern
to 79 Nm.
Check brake fluid level and if neccessary adjust with brand new approved fluid
from a sealed container.
